Lodge for Kappa Alpha Theta

The design challenge for a clubhouse for three hundred young women was a balancing act.

For functionality, furnishings were carefully selected to withstand the on-going wear and tear of a house full of twenty-somethings.

For beauty, the club’s signature colors of gold and black were mellowed to become a sophisticated palette of “champagne and moonlight”, with accents of sunny yellow, high gloss black, and a surprise touch of deep violet, which is a nod to the group’s official flower, the pansy.

The furnishings for the group’s original lodge were carefully edited before mixing them in with new and antique additions.
For low-traffic areas: decadent silk taffeta and French and English antiques. For high traffic areas: mail-order sofas and thrift-store finds.

The Lodge was designed to wear many hats: a lot like the lives of the lovely, hard-working young women who gather, study and play there.
